Product Design has been an integrated element of the course from the beginning. I completed a number of product design modules, each with a different focus. We began by understanding the ergonomics of products, and eventually this lead to prototyping some products. We also learned about photography, as well as how to create drawings in Adobe Illustrator, and render them using Adobe Photoshop. Below are some examples of work I’ve created during the course.
In the second semester of third year we were introduced to SolidWorks. Over the course of the semester we had four assignments to complete, the most intricate of which was the Stirling Engine. This took us a number of weeks to complete, as we firstly had to create all the parts, then assemble them to ensure it worked as an engine, and finally create drawings of each part. Below is my completed Stirling Engine, as well as the animation of the assembly. SolidWorks may have given me the greatest of headaches, but it also gave me an A1.
