In Human Computer Interaction we were to carry out a heuristic evaluation of a mobile application, and subsequently redesign it using our knowledge of Neilsen’s 10 Heuristics. The application my group chose to evaluate was the Outlook Web App which we used for our student emails – an app which, to this day, annoys me as a user. We carried out the evaluation and wrote a report on our findings. We then used screenshots of the application and Adobe Photoshop to create prototypes of a redesign of the interface.
Below is a screenshot of the interface as we were evaluating it.

This is a screenshot of the prototype of the interface after we had redesigned it. Now, when the icon would be pressed, a menu appears. This way the entire email is not obscured, and users can easily minimize the menu.
Third year brought us back to Processing. We had done one module on Processing in first year, but hadn’t used it since. This module had us complete an assignment which would require us to do a little bit of coding to change a basic step sequencer into a fully functioning and aesthetically pleasing sequencer.
This is the sequencer we were given on day one:

After much deliberation I decided to create an X-Files step sequencer which would allow the user to play the theme song. The design of the sequencer was done in Adobe Photoshop. The final product can be seen here:
