My name is Kim O'Shea, an alumnus of the Interaction Design Centre at the University of Limerick. I graduated in 2017 with a BSc. Digital Media Design, and a Masters of Research in Interaction Design in 2020. This website details my abilities as a designer and instructor, and the findings from my research.
My research focused on collaborative housing, an umbrella term to describe a wide range of collectively self-organized and self-managed housing. My master's thesis, entitled "Housing ourselves: an ethnographic exploration of collaborative housing in Ireland ", examined the current housing situation in Ireland and explored the reasons why collaborative housing models (cohousing in particular) have not had the same success as they have done in Europe and the wider world. I followed the progress of the Collaborative Housing Limerick group who hope to be a part of creating collaborative housing solutions in Limerick. I took the role of 'participant-as-observer', to document their progress while actively participating in discussions and events.
The thesis can be found here.
